The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association seeks to hire a

Student Assistant (f/m/x) for 10-20 hours per week (negotiable)

to support the research and data work of the Scientific Team of “CompNet – The Competitive Research Network” led by Prof. Javier Miranda in the IWH Center for Business and Productivity Dynamics (IWH-CBPD).

The contract will have a duration for at least half a year, but an extension would be desired.

Enrolled students in a Master's program in economics, data science or business or close to attaining a Bachelor’s degree (with plans to pursue a Master afterwards) are offered an opportunity to gain insights into applied economic research in an international team of scholars, based in Halle.

Areas of responsibility

  • Coding and data preparation using statistical software, in particular Stata
  • Programming for graphical representation and econometric or statistical analysis
  • Assistance with project-related and exploratory research
  • Assistance with writing reports and policy notes

Qualification and requirements 

  • Programming skills (and ideally experience) in Stata. Programming skills in Python or R are not required, but would be considered a bonus
  • Solid understanding of statistics and econometrics
  • Diligence, self-reliance, and reliability in data work
  • Fluency (spoken and written) in English
