assigned to the Department of Financial Markets, starting in the fall term 2026 or earlier. The contract is limited to three years with an option to extend it by another three years. The place of employment is Halle (Saale). Your remuneration entitlement corresponds to pay group 13 of the German public sector salary scheme TV-L.

Core research areas in the Financial Markets department are financial intermediation, corporate finance, as well as financial regulation and stability. We are an international group comprising mostly empirically working economists who are dedicated to excellence in research. We aim to contribute to financial economic research by means of participation at leading conferences and publishing our work in leading finance and economic journals. We closely collaborate with fellow academics, policy makers, and central bankers from across the globe. Active research collaborations exist both within the department as well as across the three other IWH departments. Via its Research Data Center, the IWH hosts a wealth of commercial databases via WRDS and other platforms, provides access to proprietary microdata on banks and firms via research collaborations, and pursues various own data-generating activities.

Your profile/Your motivation

You are curious, creative, and highly motivated to undertake research on finance, broadly defined. The completion of a PhD in Economics or Finance is expected by fall 2026. You demonstrate the potential for successful publications in excellent journals and ideally possess a network of international research collaborations. The ideal candidate is prepared to take responsibility for research-related policy work and to contribute in the structured Doctoral Progamme in Economics (IWH-DPE). Knowledge of German is not a requirement for the position.
