The Halle Institute for Economic Research (IWH) – Member of the Leibniz Association is seeking to hire

2 student assistants (f/m/d) for 40 hours a month

to support the research group “Econometric Tools for Macroeconomic Forecasting and Simulation” in the Department of Macroeconomics in its project “Macroeconomic modelling for energy investments”. The contract will initially be limited until September 30, 2025, but an extension is desired.

Students of economics enrolled at a German university, in particular economics and computer science or related courses, are offered the opportunity to gain insights into applied economic research.

Tasks

  • data collection and data preparation, maintenance of the data pool
  • literature review
  • programming in R for data retrieval, graphical representation and econometric analyses
  • support to economic modelling in Matlab/Dynare

Qualification and requirements

  • Bachelor certificate in economics and computer science or related
  • secure handling of MS-Office applications, especially MS Excel
  • diligence in data and bibliographic work
  • good knowledge of programming with R
  • basic knowledge in Matlab/Dynare is an asset
  • interest in quantitative research questions an econometrics; basic skills in macroeconometric methods are an advantage
